Hurricane Safety

Hurricane Safety at Sonata

Living in Florida means preparing for hurricane season from June through November. At Sonata by AgeWell Solvere, we have detailed hurricane preparedness and emergency management plans in place to protect those we care for during severe weather. Our focus is on keeping everyone safe and comfortable while minimizing disruption.

Our Hurricane Preparedness Plan follows recommendations from key authorities like the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and our own best practices developed through years of experience. We’re committed to surpassing basic precautions to ensure those we serve feel secure throughout every storm.

Sheltering in Place at Sonata

Each of our Sonata communities is built to meet Florida’s stringent building codes, ensuring we’re prepared to withstand high winds and flooding. Our communities are designed to allow for sheltering in place, providing safety, comfort, and peace of mind during a hurricane.

In the event of a power outage, our team is fully prepared to maintain seamless care and service. All Florida assisted living communities are required to have backup power generators, and at Sonata, we’ve expanded our capacity to include cooking, heating, and operating elevators. We also stock a week’s supply of food and water for every individual, ensuring we’re fully equipped to manage any interruptions.

Staying Connected During a Hurricane

We understand how important it is for families to stay informed during a hurricane. That’s why we’re committed to keeping the lines of communication open and providing regular updates to alleviate any concerns. Families can expect consistent communication through our website and social media, where real-time hurricane updates are posted.

Upon move-in, family members are invited to opt into our automated messaging system, which delivers essential information by text, email, or phone. This ensures you’re always in the loop with the latest updates on your family member’s well-being and our community’s status.

Short-Term Stays for Added Safety

For many, Sonata offers a safer option than staying at home during a hurricane. In fact, in 2019, we reinforced the roof structures of all 11 communities to provide even greater protection. Our expanded generator capacity and 24-hour staffing offer reassurance during a storm, and we provide short-term respite stays for those needing extra security.

A short-term stay at Sonata ensures older adults have access to the essential supplies, support, and care they need to weather the storm safely and comfortably. It’s a solution that provides peace of mind for families and those seeking shelter in a reinforced, supportive community.
