FLORIDA ALFA (FL ALFA) and member community, Serenades by Sonata located in The Villages, Fla., today welcomed 103-year-old Margaret Scarfia into the senior living community as a new resident.

“It is heartwarming to see one of FL ALFA’s outstanding senior living communities, Serenades by Sonata, welcome 103-year-old Margaret Scarfia into their community,” said Gail Matillo, executive director of FL ALFA. “With the help of the caring staff at Serenades, I am certain that Margaret Scarfia and her family will have a tremendous experience in this beautiful new community.”

“We welcome Margaret Scarfia with open arms into our community,” said Janet Soto, executive director of Serenades by Sonata. “We are proud to offer the best of the best in our memory care assisted living community located right here in the beautiful Villages, and we look forward to making Margaret and her loved ones a part of our family.”

Margaret’s move-in was celebrated with a reception where 103 balloons were released in her honor.  In addition to this welcoming party, during Margaret’s move-in, the state-of-the-art equipment at Serenades by Sonata gave her the opportunity to Skype with distant relatives from a smart TV in the community’s living room, as well as view a photo album that family members created by uploading pictures to a Picasa account that Margaret viewed from the comfort of her home.

“The folks at Serenades by Sonata have been wonderful during this transition – to my mother, as well as to our entire family,” said Rosemary Scarfia.  “We could not be more pleased with this beautiful, tranquil community, where we are confident that our mother will get the best possible care.  We were also thrilled that she was able to Skype with family members on the day of her big move – we know this gave her great joy and comfort as she made this transition.”

The Serenades by Sonata communities are purpose-built and specifically designed to benefit and enhance the lives of those with memory challenges, like Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Characterized by a beautiful residential design, the latest innovative safety features and award-winning programming, Serenades will feature cozy neighborhoods providing residents with a home-like feel and person-directed care with a caregiving team dedicated to encouraging residents to enjoy every day to the fullest, on their own terms.
