Longwood, Fla. – September 14, 2015 – Sonata Senior Living’s Executive Director Julie Fernandez was awarded Florida Assisted Living Federation of America (ALFA)’s Executive Director of the Year award.
Fernandez, Executive Director of Serenades memory care in Longwood, Florida, not only met the criteria to earn the award but also exhibited the superior professional acumen and devotion that has propelled her to achieve success on a much higher level.
With over 20 years’ experience in senior living operations, Fernandez consistently exceeds all operational goals for satisfaction, budget, and quality measures. But what matters most to Fernandez is making a difference in the lives of her residents AND her team members.
Over the years, Fernandez has obtained multiple certifications and coaching certificates, and embraces her own personal growth as a leader and memory care expert to improve her ability and engage her residents while helping provide her own team the necessary tools to find daily success. Every week for the last six years since opening her community she has conducted a one-on-one work session with each manager, coaching them and helping them grow.
“Julie is a tireless advocate for both her residents and her team members, measuring her own success by the growth of her own team,” said Shelley Esden, Senior Vice President of Operations of Sonata. “She diligently works to find ways to help a caregiver daughter be just a daughter again, and continuously brings moments of joy to her residents’ lives.”
Fernandez has the proven ability to effectively manage all the unique challenges of senior living, while still finding time to know the favorite candy of each of her caregivers and create a scrapbook for the families of each resident that passes. She still oversees five original managers she hired more than six years ago, since pre-opening.
