Orlando, FL – April 20th, 2012 – Sonata Health Care, an Orlando-based developer and operator of senior living communities, announced plans to build a new purpose-built memory care assisted living community, at the intersection of Daniels Road and Roper Road in Winter Garden. The $8.5 million project will break ground in April 2012, with completion estimated for December 2012.
“Serenades by Sonata” is a 37,000 square foot building that is specifically designed and programmed for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and other memory impairments. The 45 unit, 56 bed community will be Sonata Health Care’s second Serenades community in the greater Orlando area. The first, located in Longwood, opened in September 2011 and is currently over 95% occupied.
Recognized by the Assisted Living Federation of America in 2011 as “Best of the Best” for its state of the art programming and purpose built design, Serenades by Sonata will offer West Orange County and South Lake County specialized care in the award winning memory care assisted living community.
Serenades by Sonata will feature three distinct “neighborhoods”, each comprised of 15 units offering spacious private and semi-private suites. Each neighborhood has a kitchen and dining area, a living room that opens to a sunroom and into a fully accessible interior courtyard, with lush landscaping, walking paths and raised gardening beds. The single story building is designed to create a homelike, comfortable environment that encourages freedom and choice for residents, while integrating the latest safety features and technologies in an unobtrusive manner. The community also includes a family lounge, putting green and children’s play area to provide comfortable, inviting venues that encourage families to visit and share in the lives of their loved ones.
“This is a much needed and welcome addition to Winter Garden,” said Mike Bollhoefer, City Manager. “Sonata Health Care is a well-respected organization, and Serenades will be an enhancement to the state-of-the art medical facilities here”. Unlike other facilities offering memory care, Serenades by Sonata design is “purpose built” and utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to provide a safe and secure home for its residents. The homelike décor integrates finishes, colors, directional and sensory cues to create a calm and comfortable atmosphere for its residents. “We created the Serenades by Sonata from scratch, incorporating all the best practices in design and programming,” said Stuart Beebe, President & CEO of Sonata Health Care. “Our community greatly enhances our resident’s ability to enjoy daily successes in a warm, inviting, and secure environment. The result is a really beautiful community that works; enabling residents to feel comfortable and “at home”, while allowing them to live at their full capacity.
Serenades by Sonata is managed and operated by Sonata Senior Living, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sonata Health Care. The Sonata team is comprised of experienced senior housing executives who have successfully managed over 20 Central Florida senior housing communities over the past 15 years. Sonata Senior Living is committed to raising the bar for memory care assisted living, providing exceptional care and unparalleled service in a setting that aims to enhance each resident’s quality of life. According to Shelley Esden, SVP of Operation for Sonata Senior Living, “Placing a loved one in a memory care assisted living is a difficult and often unbearable decision for families. Sonata is excited to offer West Orange and South Lake families a community they can feel good about.”
Serenades by Sonata is designed by Baker Barrios Architects and will be built by Winter Park Construction. The project will provide over 60 local jobs during construction. Upon completion, Sonata Senior Living will employ over 40 full time positions to operate the community.
